We believe there is always more to learn and we want to help.

Each year we offer a $1,000 scholarship to those who have chosen to expand their knowledge and awareness to make this third rock a better place for all of us.

Ideally, applicants must currently be pursuing a bachelor’s or baccalaureate degree related to a profession that is dedicated to improving the beautification of communities in North America.  Areas of study we’d prefer to support are as follows (but not limited to these):  Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Biology, Civil Engineering, Horticulture, and Environmental and Marine Sciences.

Not going to college but making an impact elsewhere?  Please share your efforts and apply.

Applicants must already be accepted into a program and hold or anticipate holding a high school diploma or GED within the 202132024 school year. Applicants must be involved or recently involved (within one year of the date of application) in their community, either through school programs or voluntary programs.

Applicant Must Meet All Requirements

Academic Eligibility: The Fence Authority offers cash awards to students currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in a field that will improve and benefit our communities functionally and aesthetically, such as civil engineering, horticulture, architecture, or ecology.

*Applicant must have earned a high school diploma or GED, or be planning to earn their high school diploma or GED in the year in which the scholarship is awarded.

Academic Level: Applicants must be enrolled in college full time for the entire academic year in which they plan to use their scholarship based on their individual school’s requirements for full-time status or enrolled in a quantifiable program that supports sustainability.

Enrollment: Applicants must be enrolled full time in an accepted major during the 2023-2024 school year.

Residency: Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen attending or accepted into a US college, university or a quantifiable program that supports sustainability.

Application Review: The TFA Scholarship Committee will review all applications for completeness first then for quality of work. Incomplete applications will not be eligible for consideration and will be discarded.

Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on merit as evidenced in grades, personal statement, quality of work, and level of demonstrated commitment to bettering our communities.

Application deadline:
July 5, 2024

All application materials must be emailed no later than the deadline date. Documents received after that will be rejected, resulting in disqualification. The winner will be notified by July 31, 2024. Non-winners will not be notified.

Applicants must provide the following documentation electronically

Transcript: If you are deemed the official winner, you will be contacted and asked to provide an official, unopened transcript. Please do not initially send official transcripts. Proof of Current Enrollment examples: Enrollment verification letter, acceptance letter, course registration for the upcoming semester.

Introduction: 100-200 Words: Tell us about you! What made you want to apply for this scholarship? Include any fun facts, anything you feel would make yourself stand out, or what being awarded this scholarship will mean to you!

Short Essay: In 300-500 words, write about why you chose your major and how you plan to use it to help the community.

Proof of Community Involvement and Letter of Recommendation.
You will be contacted and asked to provide both of these.
