3 Reasons to Get Excited About Fencing in Your Pool

3 reasons to get excited about fencing in your poolEven though getting a fence around your pool is required by law, the process can include a lot more than just filling a requirement. There are plenty of pool fence styles, and you can have fun choosing your perfect fence! Here are a few of the benefits of fencing in your pool so you can get as excited about the project as you should be.

1. A fence around your pool adds style.

Having a fence around your pool adds a sense of space and privacy, and it keeps your pool safer by keeping out neighbors or animals. However, it can also add style and make your backyard feel more like an oasis.

Your pool fence can surround the entire yard or just the pool—it’s up to you, and the design options are endless! You can choose from a variety of materials depending on your preference and the type of environment you’re looking to create in your backyard. Most people get vinyl and aluminum pool fences, although wood styles are an option as well.. One of the fun things about aluminum and vinyl is that these materials are available in several different colors, unlike wood, which is always a natural wood look unless you want to paint it.

Pool fence height is at least 48 inches based on BOCA Pool Code, which is the basic pool code. Some areas have their own requirements in addition to the BOCA requirements, so keep that in mind…but also remember that limitations can force you to get more creative!

2. A pool fence keeps kids and pets safe.

Everyone has heard the horror stories of children who somehow end up around a pool unattended. A safety fence for your pool can help eliminate these situations and avoid putting your kids in danger. A childproof pool fence doesn’t only help protect your children, though.

Pets are part of the family, and it’s important for us to keep them safe, too. Having a pool fence can help keep your pets out of the pool. This is especially good if you have younger kids who are scared of being in the pool with animals.

Another function of the pool fence is that it can separate the yard into different spaces. One area is dedicated to the pool, and the other areas are dedicated to playing without having to worry about kids being near the pool.

3. Pool fences can help you manage floatation devices, toys, and towels!

Keeping kids safe is a pretty obvious benefit of having a safety fence around your pool, but there are a whole bunch of other less obvious benefits that you may not have even considered.

A pool fence creates an area that will keep the pool contained. Know what that means? It keeps all those pool accessories contained, too! All of your rafts, noodles, pool toys and other supplies can be contained within the fenced-in area, so you don’t have to worry about your backyard becoming an extension of the pool area. Plus, this can be helpful in case of heavy winds—having a pool fence will help keep all of your pool supplies from flying around the neighborhood. A fence for an above ground pool will function the same!

Another little benefit of a pool fence is that it doubles as a drying rack. Simply hang towels up around the fence and let them dry. This can be especially helpful when everyone is having too much fun to run inside and grab more dry towels.

See? Even though pool fences are mandatory, that doesn’t mean they aren’t a great addition to your backyard. They can bring you just as much enjoyment as your pool, and they present the opportunity for you to get a little creative. These three benefits are really only scratching the surface, so don’t be afraid to “dive in” and start dreaming up the perfect pool fence!
